Almost 2  years after the Xbox one came out, Microsoft came out with a new update for its console’s user interface. The new update, which is called the New Xbox One Experience addresses some key issues users have had since day one.  The update takes full advantage of Windows 10 which makes the console’s overall experience far smoother and more intuitive. Microsoft states the operating system runs 50% faster than before the update! And in my experience I can definitely confirm that. Navigating through my Xbox one interface feels noticeably faster. Want to find out what else has improved? Then keep on reading

Menu tabs that keep you scrolling

A new look often means a new way of navigating and that sure is the case with the new xbox one experience. Instead of navigating horizontally I found myself scrolling vertically. When switching from Menu tab to menu tab, I found myself scrolling down to look for all the content. Furthermore, we gained access to more and different tabs. The header Pins has disappeared, friends is renamed in Community, What’s on is listed as OneGuide and see that the store is divided in different categories.

The Xbox One Guide menu

Th Xbox one guide menu will give you access to a variety of functions such as the search toolbar, Friends list, Party options, messages, notifications, settings and snap center. This menu gives gamers fast access to the most relevant features of your console in matter of seconds. You can activate the new xbox one experience guide menu at any time while playing a game, watching a netflix serie or browsing the store. Simply double-tap the home button of your Xbox One controller and the guide menu will pop up. In my opinion this is the biggest improvement of the new dashboard!

Backwards compatibility

Xbox 360 games thanks to the new xbox one experience! This is really something we looked out for. Xbox One enables you to play an expanding list of Xbox 360 games, as long as you own the disc or you have a digital download that is tied to your Gamertag. If your game is on one of the 104 currently supported titles, your Xbox one will trigger a download once you put the disc in the Xbox one.

Xbox one community

Of all the new feautures of the new xbox one experience, the new social community tab is the most dissapointing. I find the previous social tab better since you had a list of friends with their current and previous game activity. You also had a nice competitive table that showed the gamer scores your friends gathered in the last month. Sadly, most of the featured are absent now. Instead, the new community shows all the latest video’s, images and achievements from your friend’s recent gaming activities.

Button mapping

Are you done with the layout of your Xbox controller? Thanks to the new xbox one experience you can remap every button and trigger in the settings menu. When button are remapped, the remapping is not transferrable to other consoles. So if you move to another console, you need to go through the remapping process again on that new console.

A bright future

This is of course just the beginning of the new xbox one experience. If you are a Microsoft preview member, you get access to early updates. Sadly, most of us have to wait because Microsoft’s preview program is full. Nonetheless, the future of Xbox one gaming is looking bright since Microsoft promises to keep on working on the console’s speed, performance and overall user friendliness.
